An Apple A Day

No Going Back
There’s nothing quite like a fresh-picked orchard apple is there? 🙂 I’ve had both types of apples, and when I wrote this poem for a class last year, it was inspired just as much by my disgust of mealy store-bought apples as it was by my delight in crisp, fresh ones picked straight from the orchard. Once you’ve eaten an apple that you picked yourself straight from the tree, there’s just no going back.
I’m already starting to get in the mood for apples again . . . but since it’s only June, I’ve got a little bit of a wait. I have no desire to eat the apples from the grocery store, though, (for obvious reasons!) so in the meantime I’ll be patient and enjoy the fruit that I can find fresh and in season. And, right now, that means strawberries, and then blueberries and raspberries and peaches and all those good summer-time fruits. I’ll have plenty of fresh fruit to enjoy until those glorious orchard-fresh apples come into season again 🙂
